Voluntours is a term that was coined one conversation we had with David from PackCamera.com. We were looking at a way to describe the integration of tourism with volunteering. Our goal was to come up with a type of tourism that built off traditional ecotours to create a better way to travel.
Tourists today are looking to leave a positive impact on the areas they travel. The packaged pass through model currently in use by countries like Costa Rica leaves a lot to be desired.
So how do traditional Eco-tours differ from our Voluntours?
Tradional Tour:
- Utilize Resellers to who wholesale packages to your tour agency
- Tours start in Major City (San Jose) with bus companies based out of Capital City
- Tourists are dropped off for activity, then picked up and leave
- You pay full retail price for your whole vacation
Green Jungle Voluntours:
- Tours are sold from the region you visit
- Regional Transportation companies used
- Local, licensed tour guides are used
- Locally grown foods
- You have the option of donating some of your time to receive reward points that redeem for discounted hotels, tours, meals, and more!
