Research

Reef Protection’s lionfish tool is specifically developed to take advantage of the lionfish’s natural behavior.  Because of this, our scientists and field researchers will utilize the ELF tool during underwater behavioral research trips.

Outreach

Outreach will be accomplished with the help of Reef Protection, through an ecotourism option like no other.  Spend the week with one of our participating scuba shops throughout the Caribbean eliminating lionfish and gathering notes on the species.  Be specially trained by expert staff on how to use the ELF tool, and experience the thrill of  the lionfish hunt!

Extension

Our goals and activities are extended through our educational programs and our online video series. Professionally produced videos on our activities will be made available to schools and online, worldwide.  These videos will feature dynamic learning opportunities for participants, utilizing smartboards, and live video chats.

Why we like it:

The tool mandates a close encounter between the target and the hunter, making it almost impossible for the hunter to use the ELF tool for a different species of fish (ie grouper or snapper).  On top of that, the exclusivity of the training program, factored in with the educational goals of Reef Protection Inc., and we have a useful tool, that assists us by providing a solution to a complex problem like the lionfish.
