This past saturday, student, tourist, and local volunteer groups came together at Playa Cocles in Costa Rica and cleaned the beaches and Beach
trail to Puerto Viejo. All in all it was a great outing, collecting 60 bags of recyclables, and trash! It was hot and sunny, but our volunteers worked hard. La Isla donated their time by collecting the bags and putting them together so Recicaribe could take them away.
About one quarter of the way through, in front of Rocking J’s, Sandro and Encar of the Jaguar Rescue Center brought some baby monkeys and a sloth to educate the participants.
After the short break we were back to work, finishing up the trail at Salsa Brava, a famous surf point in Puerto Viejo. Across the road at Surf Rentals, Pedro was nice enough to provide live entertainment, refreshments, and graphics on water quality for the tourists and volunteers to read over.
Then it was off to Reef Runners Dive Shop on Playa Chino, where Ulysses and the crew taught everyone about the dangers of invasive lionfish, and how to prepare them to eat.
One last stop at Caribeans Coffee for ice cream for all the participants.
