Earth Day 2010 Schedule

Below is a list of the 7 days of activities during our Earth Day celebration in Costa Rica
Sixaola:
April 16th. Leave by bus to explore the upper regions of the Sixaola River Valley. This kayak trip will start in Suretka and continue down to the border town of Sixaola. During the trip we will be scouting future test sites, potential runoff areas, and looking for wildlife. This part of the river is little explored by outsiders, and we are sure to see wildlife throughout our trip!
Cost: $35 Donation per person

Beach Cleanup:
Saturday April 17th.
9AM: Meet at COCLES beach to start Beach Cleanup
Enjoy a quick sendoff from the lifeguard tower with a question and answer session and talk about the importance of the beach.
After each group gets started we will strategically place area specialists throughout the beautiful Cocles to Puerto Viejo beach trail. While you travel, collecting trash with local children, you will receive a free entertaining and educating presentation and question and answer session with these specialists. Some of the subjects and displays will include the reef, local mammals, reptiles and amphibians, recycling, water quality and more.
After we complete the cleanup at Playa Negra, The participating kids will receive a free ice cream party on the beach in front of Caribeans and Mango Sunset.
After enjoying a day on the clean beaches of Puerto Viejo and Cocles, you can return to Mango Sunset at sundow for the beginning of our raffle and party. So far we have around $1500 in prizes!! Thanks to all of our sponsors and donors so far! Some of the things being offered for raffle include 2 roundtrip tickets for a round trip shuttle from Puerto Viejo to Bocas Del Toro from http://www.caribeshuttle.com. You also have the chance to win a two night stay in Geckoes Lodge, as well as a two night stay in the garden suite at Kayas Place (http://kayasplace.com). Reef Runners Dive Shop donated two discovery dives! In addition to those we have great meals at @ E’s Restaurant (a dinner with two drinks and dessert for two), a breakfast for two at Bread and Chocolate, a day long bike rental from Pegasus Rentals, a day rental of a scooter from Surf Rentals of Puerto Viejo, and more!

Admission is only 500 Colones, or free with a raffle ticket purchase. We are quickly getting some really great prizes for our raffle!

Kachabri:
April 18-20th. April 18th, travel to Kachabri, a remote Bribri Indigenous town near the Costa Rica/Panamanian Border. Spend the night on the 18th, and relax and find yourself by being embedded with local Indigenous. Learn how they weave, cook, use medicinal plants, and take nature hikes into the jungle and the local rivers. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience:
